What an SEO audit in Perth should include, what you get at the end, how long it takes, and what it costs (from around A$3,500 plus GST). Free audits, too.

When search isn't pulling its weight for a Perth business, an audit is usually the right first move. Not because the site is broken, but because nobody has yet written down, in priority order, what is holding it back and what each fix is worth. A proper SEO audit does exactly that, in two to four weeks, for somewhere around A$3,500 plus GST.

Earlier this year we audited a large company in London with a very big product catalogue. More pages had not meant more visibility, because Google wasn't crawling most of them. The fix had nothing to do with content. We'll come back to that one, because it's the clearest example we have of what an audit is actually for.

This piece sets out what an SEO audit in Perth should cover, what you should get at the end, how long it takes, what it costs here against the UK, what free audits are good for, and how to use the finished document to brief your own team or another agency.

The short version

  • A full audit covers seven areas, from crawl and indexing through to AI search visibility, and takes two to four weeks.
  • Expect to pay from around A$3,500 plus GST for an audit done by the people who would run the programme; a free audit is a sales tool, which is fine as long as you treat it as one.
  • Clear Click delivers audits as a prioritised plan with a revenue estimate beside each item, written to be handed to whoever does the work next.

What should an SEO audit in Perth include?

Most of an audit is the same whether the business is in Perth, Edinburgh or Barcelona. Googlebot doesn't care about the time zone. What changes is the keyword universe you measure against and the local signals that matter to a WA buyer. Our SEO audit service works through seven areas, and we'd expect any serious audit to cover the same ground.

Technical crawl and indexing

Can Google find, crawl and index the pages that make you money? We crawl the site the way Googlebot does, then compare the result against Search Console's indexing report. The gap between the two is where the problems live: orphaned pages, redirect chains, duplicate URLs with parameters, sections blocked by accident.

In plain terms, a page Google hasn't indexed cannot rank, however good it is. Our guide to what a technical SEO audit includes goes through this layer step by step.

Core Web Vitals and site speed

Google measures how fast a page loads, how quickly it responds to a tap, and whether the layout jumps about while it's loading. We use the real-user data from the Chrome UX Report rather than lab scores, because that's what Google uses. For a Perth audience on mobile, often between sites or on the road, this is usually worth more than it looks on paper.

On-page and content gaps against the Perth keyword universe

This is the part that has to be local. We build the full list of terms a Perth or WA buyer uses for what you sell, with SEMrush volume and difficulty from the Australian database, then map every one to a page or to a gap. Title tags, headings, internal links and thin pages all come out of this step.

The Perth context helps. Many commercial terms in WA carry a lower difficulty score than their Sydney or Melbourne equivalents, so a content gap found in the audit is often a page you can rank within months rather than years. We set that out in why Perth is a commercial advantage in SEO.

Local signals and Google Business Profile

For a business serving Perth metro, the map pack is often the first thing a buyer sees. We check the profile itself (categories, services, reviews, photos), the consistency of your name, address and phone number across directories, and whether the site carries the location schema and page structure to back it up.

Backlinks

Who links to you, who links to the competitors ranking above you, and what quality each link is. We're looking for two things: spammy links that may need disavowing, and the realistic gap between your profile and the sites you want to overtake. The gap tells us whether links are the constraint or just a nice-to-have.

Measurement and conversion tracking

An audit that stops at rankings is half an audit. We check that GA4, Search Console and your CRM or lead forms agree on what a conversion is and where it came from. If the tracking is broken, nothing that follows can be measured, so it goes near the top of the fix list whatever else we find.

AI search visibility

This one is new for 2026. We check whether the site appears in Google's AI Overviews and in answers from assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity for the queries that matter, and what the sources cited instead have in common. It's early days, but Perth buyers are already asking assistants for shortlists, and that is a visibility channel like any other.

What do you get at the end of an SEO audit?

Not a 90-page PDF. We've inherited plenty of those when taking on accounts, and the pattern is that they get skimmed once and filed.

What you should get is a prioritised list, usually fifteen to thirty items, with three things against each: the fix, who does it, and what it's worth. The last one is the point. "Fix the redirect chain on the category pages" is a task. "Fix the redirect chain on the category pages, developer, roughly A$40,000 a year in recovered organic revenue at current conversion rates" is a decision somebody can make on a Tuesday.

Revenue estimates are estimates. We label them that way and show the working: search volume, a realistic ranking position, click-through at that position, your conversion rate, your average order or deal value. Anyone on your team can challenge any number in the chain, which is how it should be.

Back to the London company. The catalogue had grown into the hundreds of thousands of pages, on the reasonable logic that more products listed meant more chances to be found. The crawl showed Google visiting a fraction of them and giving up before it reached the rest. More pages hadn't meant more visibility; they had spread it thin.

The item that went to the top of the list wasn't more content. It was crawl budget and architecture: consolidate the thin variants, rebuild the internal links so the pages with demand sat three clicks from the home page rather than nine, and let Google spend its time where the money was. Nobody on the team had asked for that. It was the thing the audit was for.

How long does an SEO audit take?

Two to four weeks is the realistic window for a site of normal size. Week one is access and data gathering: Search Console, GA4, a full crawl, the AU keyword universe. Weeks two and three are analysis and the revenue modelling. The last few days go on writing it up and walking your team through it on a call.

A one-week audit can be done, but something gets cut, usually the keyword mapping or the revenue estimates, and those are the parts that make the document useful to anyone other than a developer. If the site is very large, a one-hour scoping call will tell us whether to allow the extra week.

How much does an SEO audit cost in Perth?

Clear Click audits start from around A$3,500 plus GST for senior-led work, which lines up with the UK floor of £2,000 plus VAT we set out in what an SEO audit costs. Larger sites, ecommerce catalogues and multi-location businesses sit above that, and we'd quote after a scoping call rather than guess.

What the fee buys is senior time. An audit is mostly judgement: knowing which of the four hundred crawl errors matter and which three fixes carry most of the value. Below about A$2,000 it's hard for anyone to put that kind of time on it, so what you tend to get at that price is a tool export with a cover page. If the budget is tight, a narrower technical-only audit is a better use of it than a thin full one.

Is a free SEO audit worth anything?

Yes, for what it is. A free audit is almost always a tool report (SEMrush, Ahrefs or Screaming Frog) with a short note from a salesperson, offered to start a conversation. It will surface real technical errors and it costs you nothing but an email address.

What it won't do is prioritise, model revenue or look at your keyword universe, because that takes days of senior time that nobody gives away. There's nothing wrong with the model; it only goes wrong when a free report is treated as a plan. Use it as a second opinion, or as a way of seeing how an agency thinks before you spend anything with them.

How do you use an audit to brief your team or another agency?

This is where the audit earns its fee twice. Because the document is a prioritised list with owners and values, it already is a brief. Hand it to your in-house developer and marketer and they have a quarter of work in order. Hand it to an agency you're considering and you have a fair test: ask them to quote against the list and tell you what they'd do first and why.

Three things make it usable as a brief. Owners against each item (developer, content, you). Effort next to value, so the quick wins are obvious. And a one-page summary that a managing director can read in five minutes. We write all three in, and we'd suggest asking for them whoever does your audit.

A fair amount of what an audit finds is fixable in-house once someone has told you what matters, and we're glad when that happens. Paying for the audit doesn't oblige you to hire us for the retainer, and we'd rather say that up front.

Questions we get asked

How much does an SEO audit cost in Perth?

From around A$3,500 plus GST for a senior-led audit of a normal-sized site, rising for large ecommerce catalogues or multi-location businesses. That's consistent with the UK, where the floor is about £2,000 plus VAT. Anything much cheaper is usually a tool export rather than an audit.

How long does an SEO audit take?

Two to four weeks for most sites. The first week is data gathering, the middle is analysis and revenue modelling, and the last few days are the write-up and a walkthrough call. Very large sites can need an extra week, which a short scoping call will confirm.

Is a free SEO audit worth anything?

As a tool report with a sales note attached, yes. It will catch real technical errors and show you how an agency thinks. It won't prioritise or put revenue against anything, so treat it as a starting point rather than a plan.

What should an SEO audit include?

Seven areas: technical crawl and indexing, Core Web Vitals, on-page and content gaps against your local keyword universe, local signals and Google Business Profile, backlinks, measurement and conversion tracking, and AI search visibility. The output should be a prioritised plan with an owner and a value against each item.

Do you need an audit before hiring an SEO agency?

It's the cleanest way to do it. With an audit in hand you can brief two or three agencies against the same list and compare what each would do first. It also protects the first three months of any retainer from being spent on diagnosis you've already paid for.

Where we fit

Clear Click is a search and CRM consultancy with senior people on the ground in Perth and a team across the UK and Spain. Audits are led by a director, start from around A$3,500 plus GST, and are written to be handed on. For MCM Beauty, an Australian wholesaler, the SEO programme that followed the audit stage produced a 400% increase in first-year online revenue; the MCM Beauty case study has the detail.
